About the project

Our purpose
Haraktir is a growing digital collection of Uyghur stories, people, visual traditions, and built spaces. It began with original illustrated characters and bilingual storybooks, then expanded to connect those works with the cultural details that give them depth.
The project is made for curious families, learners, educators, designers, and anyone arriving with a sincere wish to understand. It is not intended to replace community knowledge, scholarship, or the voices of culture bearers. Its role is to make careful first encounters easier—and to encourage deeper ones.
Editorial principles
Images invite exploration, but cultural meaning, language, and the story around an object are what make it worth remembering.
Uyghur and English belong beside one another. Direction, script, and typography are treated as part of the content—not decoration.
Every entry has a stable address, useful relationships, and a path onward so the archive feels connected rather than encyclopedic.
The collection begins with existing stories, characters, and architecture while leaving room for reviewed community knowledge and new media.
Care and stewardship
Haraktir is still young. Entries may offer an introduction rather than an exhaustive history, and cultural practices can vary by place, family, and generation. As the archive develops, clearer sourcing, contributor attribution, and cultural review will remain central priorities.
